Donna S. Gaines, MA, CCC-SLP, PCI
Executive Director
After working at a state institution for severely and profoundly impaired adults and with the public schools, Donna turned her focus to the family unit. At the Arlington County Parent-Infant Education program for seven years, she evaluated and provided therapy for infants and toddlers with special needs, while training their parents in home exercises and activities. Donna opened Children’s Speech and Language Services in 1980, creating a warm and nurturing environment for families of children with a wide variety of speech-language and developmental difficulties.
“I never really wanted to be anything other than a speech-language pathologist. I consider myself lucky to love what I do at work each day.”
Her specialty took another turn when, in 1990, she was introduced to PROMPT, a tactile-kinesthetic-proprioceptive approach for working with children and adults with speech production problems. Donna became a PROMPT Certified Instructor in 1999, and teaches courses nationally.
